About this place
A morning set is one way to try the bakery’s shokupan: it comes with 1 slice, 2 kinds of jam and a drink. One customer chose Gokubi Natural Shokupan with Earl Grey and milk butter jam, and found the toast easy to enjoy, with cuts made in 9 places. Another breakfast diner recalled the bread’s fluffy texture after a light toasting, and said it was good even without a topping. Start by tasting the bread on its own, then spread a different jam on each piece to compare the sweet milk butter with fragrant Earl Grey.
The bread options include Gokubi “Natural”, described as versatile, and Gokunama “Milk Butter”, which is suggested for eating as it is. To make the jam the focus, consider Pistachio Pearl, made with pistachios from Sicily, or Kinako, noted for its deep sweetness from roasted black soybean flour. The available choices vary depending on the set, so check what is offered that day and look for a combination to suit your taste, whether you prefer fruity acidity or a milk-based flavour.
For something to take away, Gokoku Hojo Shokupan is another option. Its dough is made with five grains—mochi barley, oatmeal, amaranth, quinoa and chia seeds—and is described as moist, with a pleasantly chewy, popping texture from the grains. It can be enjoyed fresh or toasted, or used for a sandwich with fillings of your choice. For a sweet treat, there are also soft-baked rusks: shokupan layered with melted butter and sugar, baked until moist, and topped with flavours such as chocolate, framboise or pistachio.
